From ?: I suffer from eczema and what s worse that it …

First of all, make sure he is comfortable talking about his eczema problem. People with any condition they can’t help don’t like to get sympathy from others. This isn’t true for everyone but it’s good to be considerate. If he would listen, suggest the following.

If the eczema is severe, as in there is puss leaking and moist body fluid from skin, then skip taking showers until it gets better. He can still wash his hair and stay clean other ways. (Also, use soap for sensitive skin like Dove brand if showering). It is imperative that no scratching takes place. It may be normal that scratching takes place at night without the person thinking. When the area is dry, apply moisturizer. The reason the skin itches is because it is dry. He should apply moisturizer everyday. A separate moisturizer for his face.

If it is still itchy, he needs to see a dermatologist to get prescription medicine. They will probably prescribe a steroid cream. He is already using hydro-cortisone, which is a steroid cream. The dermatologist may be able to get something stronger. This should help control inflammation and itchiness. The most important part is not to scratch. If he scratches at night, the dermatologist may prescribe pills you take before bed. This prevents itchiness but makes you drowsy.

Basically, avoid frequent showers, use better soap, no scratching, always always moisturize.

He probably won’t listen to you because you don’t understand how frustrating it may be. He has been living with it his whole life. You are not a dermatologist, never experienced it, never experimented what works. You base it off of common knowledge. I know you just care, I don’t mean to sound harsh.

Eczema is a genetic skin condition. There are chances it may go away by itself after a certain age but the chances are like one out of four (dont quote this).

I have heard of natural remedies such as herbs and fish oil, but I don’t believe in them too much. It also has to do with the season. Winter gets very dry.

Also, try not to let this affect your relationship. Don’t give him sympathy or look down on him either.

edit*

also, I would never order steroid medicine off some random dealer unless they reputable and you know what you are ordering. Too strong of a cream may cause worse side affects.
